You put it on a little heavier than I do. I stop at three coats but it's probably due to the rivets that are on a lot of my projects. Paint likes to sag around rivets. I'm well acquainted with nib files and fine sand paper these days. My hand isn't as steady as it used to be. I may have to try some Chromabase single stage sometime. I have used the Imron Elite but it's not the same as the old stuff. The Imron AF400 is getting too expensive. It's all Axalta stuff now.

I also use the Sherwin Williams Acry Glo stuff sometimes. It depends on what the customer wants.

The old 40 is lookin good.

Good morning guys!
Finally have the body buffed out. I am eager to put it on the frame but will wait until I have the engine and exhaust in and running properly.
Once the body is down... look out!
I haven't finished a '39 or '40 in Folkstone in about fifteen years or so. I'm really enjoying the change of pace.
I believe the contrast between the (mostly) gloss black chassis and the gray floor pans will be a wonderful sight.

Sorry... I am embarrassed to admit, but I kind of forgot all about this thread.

I'll try to update tomorrow.
Sorry

Mike, what spray gun do you like to use on the final finish material? ALSO can you speak to how you have your air supply line equipped?? Air Dryer? Desiccant Filters??? Picture maybe???

ALSO on the inside floor pans and bottom side how much wet sanding and buffing do you do on those? Same as the rest of the body??

KUBE, you and DAVIDG's restorations are the benchmark for sure. JUST Fabulous fabulous work!!! I am in complete awe!!!

Robert,
Use a Devillbiss gun. I'd have to check model number if you'd so desire.
Air dryer and water trap plus I have the lines routed at a downward slope along the rear wall of the spray area. Every four feet there is a lateral "trap"- a pipe that goes nearly to the floor with a levered drain valve at the bottom. There are four of these on the way to the end where I hook up for air supply.
Not my idea but one I found on the good ol' Web. It works wonderfully.
On the inside floors, inside fenders, inside hood, inside trunk lid, etc. all surfaces are prepared just like the top of the hood. So yep, same as the rest of the body.
Buffing? ALL painted surfaces are blocked after painting and buffed. The "inside" of the floor gets just a tad less IF the paint is laid down very well.

Sorry I haven't kept up to date with this thread.
The chassis is complete sans the engine. That will be back from the machine shop next week. I'll have it together quickly thereafter.
Then, I'll install the engine, transmission & exhaust system. Once that's running the way I like it, the body will go on the frame. It (body) is already painted & buffed. I prefer to be 100% certain all mechanical features are operating properly prior to doing the body drop.
I have perhaps 99% of the remaining parts to complete this restoration restored and cataloged for installation when their respective time comes.
I still have to upholster the seat back rest cushions.
The doors, hood and trunk lid are 100% ready to be painted. The front fenders require a bit more blocking but are very close.
The rear fenders have the metal work completed.
All the body parts have been fit to the body already so once the finish work is done, it's straight to paint.
I must admit, I am quite eager to drop the body

FINALLY got the engine back from the machine shop last Sunday. They are good but painfully slow - 6 1/2 months slow.
I'm not one to sit around so in the meantime, other things have been getting done to further this project along.
I haven't been able to paint as I have the completed body (shell) in the paint area.
I hope to be able to drop the body on the chassis late this week.
