Default O/T paint can smoker question

I'm building a 1 gallon paint can smoker from some parts I had on hand, it doesn't seem to be putting out much smoke(using baby oil on the wick). My question is about the Nichome wire, I have about 28 turns of 20ga. wire wrapped around the wick reading about 5-6 ohms, does that seem right?

Well, if you're using a 6v, it's only about 6 watts---night light power
12v would be about 24 watts---should start smoking.
110v, 2000 watts. Really smoking & blowing fuses.

What is the use of this thing? If it is for something edible, I sure hope you are using a new unused paint can. There are some pretty deadly chemicals in automotive paint these days that due to their volatility, would vaporize quite easily.

Yeah, I always questioned beer can chicken. Not sure I would want to bake a chicken with a aluminum beer can with painted graphics and an inside plastic liner. But I guess it tastes amazing. Not my thing.

One thing I miss being up north is not going to the southside to get some amazing bbq off someones front yard.

Modern cars can be tested with a vacuum gauge.

>>>12 volt car battery.>>>

4 ohms should do it --- or maybe over-do it. Use a small alligator clip to test at different points along the nichrome. Jack E/NJ

But, while you can see smoke, you can't see vacuum! If you have a leak in the evap system, injecting smoke will pinpoint the leak. Whereas if you merely watch a vacuum gauge to see if it drops you still have no idea where the leak is. Plus, if you're hunting an exhaust leak it's pretty hard to pull a vacuum on the exhaust system! But if you inject smoke into the tailpipe any leaks soon become obvious.

Ordinary vacuum gauge is not sensitive enough for evap work, they work in inches of mercury, for evap work you need a gauge that works in inches of water, a gauge is more used to confirm the problem, and the repair, smoke is good for finding the problem

Got it working, unwound and cut off some of the Nichome wire and got it down under 3 ohms.
