fLAT HEAD v8 wHAT yEAR
Hello! HELP trying to figure out what year my flat head is in my 1938 coupe' on the bell housing up toward the block there is a circle, and all I can read in it is a 9 to the right of the circle and aprox 1 inch to the right of circle are three large stamped letters X12 larger than 1/2 inch stamped. It passes the pencil test above the timing cover, has raised intake, has raised exhaust ports , 24 stud, water holes one rectangular and the other two are trapazoid in shape , some letters and numbers on the surface of intake manifold under the gasket right rear no order F,C and a S in a diamond. Looks like this block is or was only silver in color?? Hope some one will read and have some help or answers Thanks

Raised "intake" surface started in 1941 - actually August, 1940.
Having passed the so called pencil test, I'm guessing it's a 41 Ford block. What's the bore diameter? The numbers on the bell housing won't help you determine what year this is.

A photo or 2 would help as well.
