Default A question on high compression heads

Lang's offers two aluminum high compression heads. A 6:1 and an 8:1.
I know opinions may vary quite a bit on this subject.
Pros and cons are requested.
8:1 seems like overkill to me unless it is a real screamer engine you intend to build...which I do not.

Sometimes the ratios are exaggerated. Look back through the posts of last year on the subject. Also at the MTFCA.

The question I have: are the rods, crank and babbit bearings up to it?

See, questions like van Dyck's are the type that I have not considered.
I'll do a search on the subject as advised, so I sound half way informed when I visit my engine builder next month.
Thanks for everybody's patients in my endeavors.

So I was just on the MTFCA forum and did a search on aluminum high compression heads. Looks like they are all in the 5.1 to 5.3 ratio despite the claims of the manufacturers. What the hell? There was some lengthy discussion on the Z heads regarding poor gasket fit, but most people essentially liked the boost they gave.

Several friends have installed Z heads only to find out there can be piston interference - good idea to check without gasket and turn over by hand through all 4 pistons. Two had to fly cut the combustion chamber a smidge.
