looks to be plastic might be to keep the shaft for hitting the starter bolt.

What happened Fred,did you come up to a stop sign and crash your starter drive into the ring gear by throwing the spark lever up?

Y Blockhead. That part is part of the up start kit sold by the vendors. Look at Snyder's part # A11470-F.

Dick - Looks like that is it.
At least I guessed it had something to do with starting. (Although, being on the starter rod, it wasn't much of a guess.)

What does it do?? It goz onta any where you want to put it onta I've sold quite a few of these at the swap meets.
