Default need help from 1942 Mercury guys or

I have a 1942 Mercury engine with the generator and belt set up missing. The puzzle to me is why is the crankshaft pulley a single belt? These engines came with double belts so what does the generator and belt set up look like. Thank you all for any help. Sonny

Here is an enlarged picture of your 42 Mercury Engine. Only the Trucks got Double Pulleys. The one belt did the Generator and Water Pumps.

This picture shows a 1942 Mercury Engine with the rare Liquamatic Transmission attached. It is on display in the Early Ford V8 foundation museum in auburn, Indiana. You will notice that it has single pulleys on the Water Pumps. So, your Motor is correct for a Mercury passenger car.

Should be double belt as '42-'48 used a belt to drive fan.

Sorry for the misinformation. I was concentrating on the Water Pump Pulleys. My 34 Ford has a single Belt, but the Fan is mounted on the end of the Generator. When the Fan is mounted down lower, a second Belt is required.

'40-'41 fan is mounted lower, still has single belt.

51 MERC-CT, How is the fan mounted lower with the 40-41's with a single belt. This engine came with a fan mounted generator with a cut out on the generator. It can't be correct as the mounting stud is longer for the separate fan and the longer stud and nut inter-fears with the fan, so that can't be correct. Could the 42 engine possibly have a generator with a double pulley to run the fan with the second belt? Thanks so far for helping guys and thanks for blowing up the picture.

Fan blade bolted to crankshaft pulley.

40/41 fan mounted to the crankshaft pulley. 51 Merc beat me to it.

As indicated in previous post the '42 does have a dual pulley and belts.
It uses a fan bracket like this.

A lot can happen over 70+ years. Are you certain it's a 29A engine? If you know the history of the engine, you would know why the single sheave crank pulley is on there. 1942 configuration was carried over to 1946 after the war but the distributor changed to the water resistant type compared to the standard crab type of 1942. Those lower pulleys have the distance between the sheaves on the crank pulley and should all be the same through 1948.

1942 Mercury (29A) engines were installed in trucks and rear engine busses as well as passeger cars.
Different belt arrangements required.
Then again 75 years later, who knows ?

fortyfords,

The picture that 51Merc sent you has the correct configuration for your 42.
If you have access to the Green parts book, on page 352 is a diagram of belt configuration and on page 215 is diagram of the crankshaft double sheave pulley.
One belt to drive the fan and other belt to drive water pumps and gen.
Indication from parts book is that this is correct for Pass. car(42-48) and Commercial, and trucks(42-47).
