Default Coolant for Aluminum Heads and Radiator

Should I use Ethylene-Glycol, Propylene Glycol, or HOAT (Zerex G-05) in my flathead with some aluminum parts?
Many thanks to all.,...jack

Jack, I cannot advise one over the other. I can advise however, that for the last 15 years or so, I've run a 50% Prestone concentration in ordinary tap water in my engine, and recently had heads off with absolutely no apparent corrosion whatsoever. Brian

Thanks, Brian.
Does your engine have aluminum parts?

'NO ROSION > http://www.norosion.com/

"Our coolant additives prevent corrosion, deposits, electrolysis, pump failure, and overheating. They can be used in any coolant, and provide 100% protection. Even in straight water."

Most anti-freeze solutions, if not all, say it's ok for aluminum parts.

I did a later model engine swap in a non Ford vehicle. That engine had the pink long life stuff from the factory and MANY people told me I had to run it.

After some research I found it was perfectly OK to use the green stuff we are all used to. It says safe for ALL metals.

The kicker is I found the pink stuff does not protect copper or brass as per the label on the factory pink coolant. My truck has a copper/brass radiator and heater core as well as some of the fittings.

The engine came out of a truck with all aluminum components and an iron block. Glad I didn't listen to all the "experts" telling me the engine HAD to have the pink factory coolant.

Moral of the story..........read the label to be sure.

You don't need antifreeze in FL. As Petehovie recommended, norosion and Reverse Osmosis water, not tap. RO water sold in gallons for drinking in Walmart. RO has no additives or trace minerals in it like distilled or spring water. Although anti-freeze may have a little higher boiling point, the benefit of running straight water w/norosion is water is a better heat conductor, so your engine runs cooler than with antifreeze.

Thanks for that link petehoovie. I run low concentrations of coolant here in AZ. and was amazed at the difference. Never heard of this stuff.
