Default Who is Repairing Steering Shaft Threads

Seems I seen steering shaft thread repair service offered some where not to long ago. Can not seem to find it advertized anywhere but Macs which I will not do business with. Does anyone know who was offering this and their price? May not be worth the cost with new shafts being sold for $85, but thought I would check. Thanks.Rod

Ok, will let you know. If I get any takers on the trade I offered yesterday in the swap section I will send you two. If not, might send you one 43" for repair. Not sure with shipping it is much difference to just send one. Rod

Rowdy, If they're no too bad, Get an adjustable 1/2- 20 die and stock or a split adjustable die and fit it over the threads and clean the damage that way. DO NOT use a solid, non adjustable die as it will only cut to the size it was made for and it will give you a thread that is too loose. Taps and dies are available in almost every flea market at minimal cost. If that fails, have a local machine shop "Chase" the thread for you. Good luck

The threads on one are gone and the other one is cracked in two places. Wish I could just chase them. Sine the one with cracks is 44" and not 43" I am looking for I am not sure I am going to repair it. Will repair the 43" though. Lincoln swap meet it only 5 weeks away, so will be looking for a few cheap columns with the shorter 2 tooth columns there even if the tubes are cracked. Rod

BTW Rod, I have an extra 1929 steering column with bad threads. If you need another one, if it is shippable, I can send it if you pay the freight. It is complete with all parts. If you like I could take a picture and send it. Send me an email address.
