These stats restrict the water flow and your engine will run up near 200 on 85 to 90 degree days. Made lots of tests to find this out. G.M.

GM,
I have always thought that ALL V-8's had thermostats starting about 1934 to the present day.
I'd be very interested to hear the actual details of all these tests that you ran.
Regards,
Jim Boehmke

I have been running NOS 160 stats for 10 years with no over heating. Again these are the old original style stats.

I have a 36 pickup with a 35 21 stud motor. I took brass freeze plugs and drilled a 5/8 hole in them to slow down the water. when the temp out side at 50 deg it took everything to get past 100 deg. so I run a piece of cardboard and cover up 2/3 of the rad. I will run that cardboard until it gets to about 65 deg out. when its bout 100 out my pickup runs about 180 deg
