I was looking for a panel or a pickup. Theres a decent looking panel over in Montana, I was tempted to go look at it it (about an 8 hour drive) but in the end I decided I really wanted a pickup.

Re: Persistence pays off...1947 Ford
Well I finally found some belts. Thanks to Fordbarn I found a Gates number for the longer belt, and for the short one I found a nice used one on an engine my Brother had that I had forgotten about...I would still like to find a new shorter belt but this one will work for now. Hope to try and fire it later this week if the distributor shows up!

Re: Persistence pays off...1947 Ford
Chris - belts should be no problem - you should be able to buy them over the counter at any place that supplies bearings and seals. Think industrial rather than automotive. Belts are sold by their section and length. Now you have two that fit, take them to a bearing supply place and get them to measure them and supply the nearest equivalent. They are normally very good quality too.

Re: Persistence pays off...1947 Ford
Well, she is now running! I rebuilt the carb, and thanks to Bubba the distributor is good to go. It runs very well, fires right up, and although smoked quite a bit at first...that seems to be gone after I changed the oil that I had put a lot of marvels mystery oil in. I t still does not have brakes, but I crept out in my alley to see how it steered and shifted. I think with a little wiring, brakes, gas tank cleaning and a few more odds and ends, she will be a driver!!

Re: Persistence pays off...1947 Ford
Chris, very nice origional truck, hard to find like this nowadays. Keep it as it is cause its only original once. For cripes sake dont drop that front axle, would look out of character. Best of luck, Kevin.

Re: Persistence pays off...1947 Ford
Odd that your truck oxidized, before you rubbed it, to a color known as "shitbrindle" green. Shitbrindle green, according to my late father, is the typical color resulting from those who mix all their leftover paints together in order to have enough to paint a vehicle. My first car was hand-brush-painted shitbrindle green. I liked to have worn my 12 year old arms off sanding down the streaks! Glad yours was just oxidation!
