1953 f-100 ,disc brakes
I want to install A front disc brake kit on my stock 53 f-100, I would go with A non power brake master cyl , some kits require you to relocate the upper grease fitting on the spindle, Anyone who has done this swap have helpful advice ,thank you

Re: 1953 f-100 ,disc brakes
I did this to a 42/48 front axle, with a Speedway kit. I used a 73 ford truck MC that was used when Ford first came out with un powered disk brakes as an option. But the pedal pressure us still quite hi. I've been told that you can buy different pads that will reduce pedal pressure. might do that someday.???

The pedal pressure is HIGH because the diameter of the bore in the MC (for the FRONT discs) is too large. This is why it's a great reason to NOT use a "non-power brake" MC with disc brakes. Remember....the SMALLER the bore in the MC, the less foot pressure is required to apply the brakes, although the stroke required will increase somewhat. DD |

While the above statement is true for some vehicles, many Fords used the same M/C bore diameter, power and non-power, on the same vehicle. The pedal ratio is normally different, power vs non-power. The main difference between some power and non-power masters is the depth of the primary piston push rod bore. One other difference is the dust boot retainer on manual master castings. That's why I use the 73 MC, it's made for non power.???? But your right. I'll go to different pads next.
