A head on B engine

what is involved? drill some steam holes? im thinking about using a higher comp A alum head on the B motor

Hi; My '32 B came with a Model A head and pump, ran fine. In fact it was a Model A "police" Ford high comp head..... a 'B' head. Check the gaskets for any changes. Newc

well this B has the C head on it, which is high comp I guess. just thinking about going A head so a waterpump is more avalable

The stock B head with the C on it is 4.6:1 and the stock A head is 4.22:1.

Between #2,3 there's 2 small holes, depending on the head, and gasket used those 2 holes may need to be plugged

Many years ago I ran a Model A cylinder head on a Model B engine in my 1929 Station Wagon with oversize tires for hard driving on sandy beaches. At the time my nephew was a hot rodder and he threaded bolts into the two steam holes that are in the block, then cut and filed them flat. Used the regular Model A cylinder head gasket, drove many miles over about 12 years, never had a problem.

from what ive learned there are two extra " steam holes" in the B block between 2 and 3 cylinder. A doesn't have this added cooling I guess.

so its time. ive not had anyone say for sure it wont work or do it this way not that way. I can reach inside and see that if I drill the holes in the head the hit the water jacket.

im leaning to just drilling the holes to match

If your motive is what you believe to the be the relatively availability of B water pumps, I believe that you've been misled. There out there in quantity.

Use the Model B gasket with either the B head or the high compression Model A head and the steam holes are covered so the problem is gone. I am basing this on all of the High compression Model A heads I have ever seen. I assume you are running this in a Model A, if not then what?

years ago when i put one of charlie yapps heads on my B motor i had leaks from those holes. had the head off twice. then called charle and he said "we always plug those holes" so, i did, problem solved.
