Nothing will stop a real pro, but the extra time to cut through a steering wheel might be all the time needed to slow up a crook and bust him.

Club might work good against the casual non pro auto thief.

How much of a risk is theft? It happens, but unless you have something very valuable, like a woodie, Sportsman or Corvette, I think it is very unlikely.

If you have a trailer, people seem to steal them occasionally, but not for what is inside, but for the trailer itself. For cars like mine, I think the risk is minuscule and not worth worrying about.

Possibly true but, if you follow HAMB car theft and trailer theft seem to be increasing, especially if you live in a "border" state.

I have seen a number of trailer thefts, so I would worry about that. My car, no.

That said, I won't leave the keys in mine. Antique cars are too hard to get rid of, in my opinion, plus, if someone puts one on a roll off, they are hard to miss. Not like it's a Honda Accord.

Enclosed trailers are the biggest issue here. A guy towing his Speedster in one had his entire rig stolen. They abandoned the tow vehicle almost immediately (a Chevy, just sayin'..) and later found the Speedster down in an arroyo outside town. All they wanted was the trailer.

On the other hand, his rig was parked at a Motel 6 in a not-so-nice part of town. If he'd bothered to ask any hobbyists around here, they'd have steered him clear of that area.

I've done several cross-country trip in my F-1. I have a kill switch, and I don't leave anything in the truck but parts and tools (in a locked box). I stay at motels where the truck is right outside my room whenever possible, and at smaller mom'n'pop motels. No problems at all.

Don't waste your money, unless by "club" you mean your car club is going to take turns watching the parking lot all night. The steering wheel "locking" device is easily defeated by a hacksaw.

Thank you all again. More good ideas. Yes, I mean how to defend against the crooks with a ramp truck. Blocking it in is one good defense> maybe pick a place where the truckers stay, and ask them to block it in. Probably staying on the move, and keeping it covered in well lit areas is a good start. The GPS thing is good, but that is a little to late unless you had a positional alarm that went to your cell phone.

I have driven coast to coast twice and stayed in a number of motels. A good lockable car cover for starters. Always try to park in a well lit area of your motel. I have an electric master kill switch, a fuel shut off and an alarm. I'm old school and do not own a cell phone but the new alarms will call your phone when it is triggered.
