Don, I don't know if I have the answer. I just rebuilt my Zenth 2 carburetor, and searched for a gas resistant paint. I did paint the carburetor, so I hope the paint will hold and be resistant to gas. The paint is RUST-OLEUM Engine Enamael. The paint claims to resist heat up to 500 degrees F, AND claims to be "gas and oil resistant". I guess time will tell. The sheen on the paint cap is a dull black, however, it actually turned out to be on the glossy side. I have been told that the paint needs to be on the glossy side to be gas resistant. The number on the spray paint can is 248936, and states to be "semi gloss black".

Aero Gloss Jet Black(63-1) works well, but is getting difficult to find(brush-on). Also Formula U fuel proof polyurethane(Raven Black #20110 aerosol). Raven Black much less glossy. Both are from Widwest Products Co.

Aero gloss is no longer making colored dope.

I suggest that you try www.aircraftspruce.com and look for black butyrate dope which is used in finishing fabric covered full scale airplanes. This is the same material that Aero Gloss bottles and sells. You will have to buy a quart (and thinner) which will be enough for your entire local Model A club. My preference for painting carbs is PPG's DP-90 epoxy. It is satin black and holds up as well as anything I have seen. Gar Williams

Engine paint will work just fine but don't put it on to heavy. But I think chevy orange is the wrong color.

I use a product called LustreKote by TF Top Flite. It comes in a spray can. there are two part numbers Flat Black TOPR7510 and Black TOPR7509. I prefer the flat black, but it was discontinued. The paint is impervious to fuel. You can order it on line $6.49 for 10 oz can.

Their web site is www.top-flite.com
