Default dual rear wheel drive

Doing research for my father-in-law. He has 1930 Model A Private bus with 4 wheels in the rear and all 4 are drive wheels. Can anyone tell me more about this setup? Thanks in advance.

This a little different than others I've heard of - this utilizing a Model A rear axle?

Of course there was the "BIG IRON" adaptations, one name of which I remember from Ahooga Board was the "Sextette." And this was BIG iron with capacity of 5 ton or more.

A lot of work was done at the Hoover Dam using Model AA trucks equipped with Warford Sextette setups.

Of course your government had LOTS of money available. Nothing but the best for a government project.

See Vince's page at http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/warfordsextette.htm

I think this was driven by a second pinion gear in the forward case driving the second torque tube and differential, a rig I have seen somewhere I cannot remember. Could be built by sawing 2 banjos in half and welding 2 front halves together. Following the directions will require more coffee, but I think the rotation of aft drive shaft would be reversed, and flopping the ring gear position in aft differential would then get that set of wheels turning the proper way.
I know I have seen pictures of this somewhere...

Are you on Facebook. There is an AA page called Model AA Ford Truck Lovers. On 28 April there was a pic of an AA with tandem rear axles.
