Default Machine screws for wood roof parts

I am installing the roof bows, etc on a '31 CCPU. What is the size of the round headed machine screws used to connect the roof bows to the wood piece in the sheet metal door header? I find that #8 x 32 fit the existing holes in the header the best although some of the holes are wallowed out a little. Are there any flat washers or lock washers used? Know the nuts are square.

I am not an expert in 30/31 A's - I'm a 28/29 fellow, but I suspect the screws are #10. I used stainless steel machine screws so some poor slob 30 or 40 years from now doesn't have the same problem I did removing them. In the top of may 28 special coupe, many of the screws were niped off. Using SS screws and clipping them off if a little too long means they wont rust.
