A couple questions about a 50 pick-up
Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone can tell me what these holes are for, theres one on each side. You can see it in this picture, right above and to the front of the tire. Also, Ive been looking at every swap meet I go to for the 3 clips for this front molding. No luck yet, so does anyone know "for sure" who sells the correct clips, or would anyone here be kind enofe to sell me 3 ? Thanks guys.. |

Re: A couple questions about a 50 pick-up
holes on the side are not stock. I would try dennis carpenter for clips

Re: A couple questions about a 50 pick-up
The holes on the sides are in exactly the same location to each other, and are perfectly drilled, leading me to think they where factory.
Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong, smile. Thanks 36 |

Re: A couple questions about a 50 pick-up
Holes could be for aftermarket turn signals.

I have a very original '48 F-1. It doesn't have those holes. I don't think Henry put them there.

Re: A couple questions about a 50 pick-up
hey guys, thanks a lot for the replies.
ill probably just leave the holes there, they don't bother me and I don't want to hurt the original paint. Barry, Id rather have some old original clips that some made in china, so if you can find 3 good ones Id appreciate it, Id gladly send you the postage.. Just let me know, Thanks.. |

Re: A couple questions about a 50 pick-up
I just looked at about 50 trucks on line and none had holes or emblems etc. where your holes are. They were all 50 ford trucks. ken ct.

Re: A couple questions about a 50 pick-up
It's possible you have Mercury fenders - they had trim that wrapped around the fender, ending at a light up front.

Re: A couple questions about a 50 pick-up
Here is a picture of a mostly original '50. As you will note, there are no mouldings on the front fender.

Possible reflectors that were added. My 49 F1 has no holes like that.

Re: A couple questions about a 50 pick-up
its possible that there had been some type of fender corner markers there , like curb feelers pointing sywards, if your a short person, its helpful to know where your
boundaries are when parking & reversing, |

Quote:
They are 'curb feelers' not 'curve feelers', and they would need to be mounted much much lower on the truck to be effective, like 6 inches off the ground.

Re: A couple questions about a 50 pick-up
Hey guys, thanks again for the replies,
Ken, thanks man for taking the time to do that, crazy thing is, these holes are so perfect, they look punched, and are exactly in the same location on each side. I'm not sure if the paint is factory, but when I pulled the interior out, it was the same color as the out side of the pick-up. And the holes where punched, or drilled ? before the paint was put on. Guess there mystery holes, smile... |

Re: A couple questions about a 50 pick-up
I wonder if your truck once had an accessory grille guard/brush breaker and lateral straps were added for support. Just a thought...especially in ranch/farm country.

Re: A couple questions about a 50 pick-up
The paint store that I use has a super large collection of molding clips, try a paint supply or a body shop.

Re: A couple questions about a 50 pick-up
Those holes may be for a chrome mirror that used to be put on trucks to enhance the view on either side.

Re: A couple questions about a 50 pick-up
Whatever you do, don't contact Ford Motor Company about them holes. Rumor has it back around '48 or '49 they was experiminting with a secret carburetor that got like 100 mile to the gallon. Of course if they let it out to the public the oil companies would lose a ton of money, so it was all pretty secret and hush hush. I heard they were supposed to destroy all the prototypes but apparently one of them is still unaccounted for, and the rumor is it was the one they were testing on a truck. To identify which truck it was they mounted a couple of markers on the front fender....to this day they still don't know what happened to that truck...
