did you insulate the distributor shaft? with higher amperage coil conversions we are getting a bleed thru the rotor grounding on the shaft, use two layers of heat shrink tape, one at a time. orange color is the color of some of the repro's available

Did the two layers of heat shrink tubing along with Corona Dope on many areas.
When the car get hot starts missing skipping two a point where it just stops. On note is I have an external coil and when I take the coil wire near any engine part get a fabulous spark. When I pull a plug wire it is a weak spark until I let the engine cool down. |

The symptoms you describe are in line with a problem on the high tension side of the ignition. Do you have another rotor you can swap in? If you dismantle the distributor and closely examine the rotor and shaft, you might be able to see evidence of the stray sparks. They tend to leave a trail.
In my experience solid core wires, non resistive plug caps, and gaps no wider than 25 thou all help to keep things under control. Mart. |

Re: 41 ford Helmet Distributor Rotor question - color orang
The orange rotors are made by carpenters we are a dealer for them and stock and sell the orange rotor. I prefer not to use unless I have to because they don’t fit as well. But have never had issues from them like you are describing.
Will it start immediately back up after it dies? Are you running the stock condenser they send with those remote coil plates? If so they are garbage. |

I'very more work to do here but I'm leaning towards rotor cap or wires. Got a few simple issues that had snuck up on me but I believe I'm on a good path.
I need to update the other post on this just to keep the history of the issue in one thread |

Guys have still been working on this have a good amount of information and will share as soon as I have it all put together.
I'm currently working with an Engineer at Patronic and doing a number of tests with point settings coils and ballast values. It is proving to be quite interesting. Stay tuned |
