Default "NEW" reproduction oil pump VS original

Hello to all you mechanical guys out there: in trying to find a good original oil pump core for rebuilding, I have struck out the last 4 times trying to get something worth rebuilding. At this point between the cost of the cores and the cost of the shipping, I am nearly at the point of the reproductions that Brattons & others offer in their catalog. Have any of you bought & used one of these - have you taken one apart to inspect it; quality of the gears, machine work and tolerances that would provide a good supply of oil for a rebuilt engine. I hope that someone can shed some light on this issue. regards, Steve

I rebuilt an original pump that I thought was a good core, and when I tested it by running it on my newly rebuilt engine, it took well over 2 minutes to get oil to flow out of the oil return tube (I had cut up a spare return tube and installed a section of clear 3/4" ID rubber tubing to see the flow). I thought that was way too long, so I purchased and installed a new pump from Bratton's and I then had oil flowing in 25-30 seconds. So I'm definitely OK with the new pumps.

We reviewed the new pumps when they first came out. We still have one in the roadster and it is putting out good pressure and is holding up very well.

I don't know what you did to rebuild a pump that is that bad. I rebuild all my pumps and can get oil out of the hole in the block with the hand crank. I can have oil in the valve chamber in 20 to 30 seconds or less.
