28 29 CCPU Help
I am in the process of rebuilding a 28 29 CCPU cab. It needed all new wood including door jambs etc. I have elected to replace the back and side sheet metal with reproduction parts I believe are made by Howells in Texas. This is not a fine points show truck but just a little fun vehicle to put around with and enjoy.
I am not sure how the top back panel hangs or attached to the original top cross brace. There seems to be a groove cut in the rear wood header to accept this hem to be inserted in there and hammered flat. Anyone have any photos or direction on this. I have the front header in and both door jambs and everything so far appears to be lining up very well. |

Re: 28 29 CCPU Help
howells sheet metal reproductions can be a little suspect on quality and fit, and can be slow on delivery

Here is whats needed to make them fit, Front door pillars, needed all the brackets made that attaches them to the wood top side rails and front wooden cross header.the two 5/16 studs for the window opening arms were spot welded on,BUT with only about 2 amps on the welder,One tap and they fell off,I tig welded them on fully. Front steel header panel needed reworking to fit inside the door pillars. After assembling the rear of the cab with the two back panels and the two corner pieces the rear wooden header fitted OK until I put the two tee strip pieces in,then the cab was the thickness of the two tee pieces too wide,I made some wooden filler bits to compensate , The actual corner pieces were a good repo. BUT over all I,m very pleased with the job. There is an angle iron piece that goes across the rear,It goes up inside the folded lip of the top rear centre panel and sits under the lip on the two outer panels, there is a recess machined into the wooden rear header for it to sit into,I used 316 stainless coach screws to hold it on.
