Default 5 lug 8" circle tubeless 19.5 wheels won't fit over drums

Well another learning moment...

I started mounting up my 6, 5 lug on 8" circle,19.5 tubeless wheels and Goodyear tires today.

The wheels came off a late 70's Dodge motor home. They're BUDD #89340 wheels.

Got a rear set ready and a front. Bolted the front on and it fit and looked great. Went to install the rear inner...and the wheel center hits the drum before coming anywhere close to seating. Quite obvious they aren't gonna work. The truck is a '37 Model 79.

Good grief...

I still have a complete set of 6 nice, stock rims. Thinking maybe I'll just buy 6 new 7.50-20 and call it good.

Education costs money...

Sorry for your learning experience, but it’s good to know. The early mechanical brake drums are obviously different, and seems larger, than later juice brakes. If it was a close fit you might be able to do some judicious metal edge removal on the drums, but that doesn’t sound like what you’ve described. Finding a good new home for the 19.5s should not be difficult. Stu

That's kinda what I'm thinking...

The worst part is getting that "you're a dumbass" look from the Queen...

Yeah, that part sucks. I’m a guy that gets a lot of wheel questions and have in a least one instance that I remember hedged on whether the 19.5s would fit the early drums. You’ve absolutely helped me knowing this for the next time it comes up. Stu
