Hi
When trying to get out of the truck last night. The inside handle just slipped and I could not open door from inside. So I reached out and opened for from outside handle. Outside handle work fine (latch moves as it should). Inside handle slip in both locking and opening attempts. Today I tried to remove the inside handle, but when I push the spring back for access to the pin, to knock pin out. I can located the pin hole, but since the handle slips I can’t figure out where the pin is. It looks like the handle is moving and then there is a chrome sleeve. I’m hoping it just the pin broke. But the shop manual doesn’t go into removal of inside handle. Hope I described this correctly..... Suggestions / help as always greatly appreciated.

Based on the typical wear issues with these mechanisms, the pin isn't likely the issue.
You'll need to hold the escutcheon ring back against the door to remove the pin. Use the blade of a screwdriver or other tool for this task. The pin should slide out easily and the inner handle is freed. More often, the latch mechanism has a couple of wear points that cause the problem you described - outer handle works but not the inner. To access the mechanism, the inspection panel on the door needs to be removed. There are screws by the inner handle and the latch that need to be removed - the outer handle will need be separated as well. Getting the mechanism out of the door requires some dancing - it works better with the window up, if I recall correctly. With the mechanism out, you'll be able to look over the condition. Repairs are possible but the housing for the latch is a poor design with ear tabs that are prone to cracking. Get it out and let us know what you find. Happily, there actually are reproduction pieces available - AND THEY FIT - AND THEY WORK!!! Find them on ebay.

Thank the issue is typically you locate the hole and the pin is inline with the hole. Not the case here

I’ll keep trying. The problem, I think, is my handle stops (maybe due to whatever is broke) before I can see the pin to inner handle shaft.

If something is broken in the mechanism, you may want to try pulling out on the handle while pushing the trim in. You have to push the trim in pretty hard, don't be afraid to be forceful.

For the next person who may have same issue. Unlike my 39, the truck handle has 4 holes. I assume they did so you had option on handle direction. I thought (like my 39) there were only 2 holes. Trying find pin when using the wrong hole is a waste of time Tom thanks again!
