Default Identifing carb & master brake

Hello everyone,

I am working on a newly aquired 1937 Ford Sedan Deluxe 85hp.
Jiuce brakes were added at some point, the system wasn't working and little to no brake fluid in system, look slike the master cylinder was leaking it out. I pulled the master brake cylinder and it does not look like exactly like the 1939-48 from the pictures I have of those. Anyone know if this is indeed a 1939-1948 master cylinder?

Also I need to rebuild the carb, I am assuming that it is probably a Stomberg 97, but the fuel line side has the circle without a 97 in it though (P 20671 instead). The other side of the carb Says "Stomberg South Bend IN, and a bunch of patent numbers.

Any ideals?

Thanks,
Dave

The pictures did not take the first time I uploaded. The master cylinder is under the driver side floor.

yes its a 1939-1948 master cylinder.
And its stromberg carb, so the rebuild kit will work.

Thanks, all the 1939-48 master cylinders I saw had a rectangular square top vs mine that is rounded, wasn't sure if the other dimentions were also different as well.

But is it s Stomberg 97?

No Its not a 97 since it does not say 97 on the side, But all rebuild kits will work with it.

Unless you are into namedropping it will work very well.

The master cylinders will have come with various caps depending on which manufacturer they came from. There will have been many aftermarket suppliers over the years. I'm no stromberg man, but that looks like a stromberg to me.

It is a Stromberg model 48... It will work, but it's a lot of carburetor for your '37.

Actually I was referencing the casting shape itself not the cap on the master brake.

Thanks uncle max, and I also found a 1 1/32 hiding on the body, that must be the venturi size?

Yes, that's the venturi size. Stromberg 97's were less than 1".

I found out that the master brake is off a 1939-48 Ford truck, that explains the shape difference of the casting over the car version.

Thanks to all who give their input!
