WANTED: Starting Crank for Model AA Truck
City:
Georgetown
State:
Texas
I am looking for a starting crank / lug nut wrench for Model AA Trucks. There were three types of starting cranks as shown below in the photo. You might have one but don't know what it goes to.
The first one had a 15/16" hex opening on the end for the early style lug nuts used on the 20" wire wheel trucks in 1928. It has the ratchet lug at a 90 degree angle to the throw. Should have Ford script but not always. The second one had a 1-1/8 inch hex opening to accommodate the large acorn nuts used on 28-29 Model AA trucks. It too has the ratchet lug at a 90 degree angle to the throw. The third one has no opening on the end for lug nuts and was used strictly as a starting crank handle and has the ratchet lugs in line with the throw. Lastly, the later '30-'31 AA lug wrench as shown in the illustration was used strictly as a lug wrench (not a starting crank handle) and came with a 20 inch long rod for a handle that slipped through the hole in the wrench. The rod is 20 inches long, 3/4 inch in diameter and flared out to 1 inch on one end which kept it from sliding all the way through the lug wrench. I am interested in buying any of the above wrenches and particularly the 20 inch rod handle. You should click on the image to get an enlargement and it will show the rod handle at the bottom. Thanks, Fred

Re: WANTED: Starting Crank for Model AA Truck
I have successfully located crank no. 2 (acorn nut style) but really want no. 1 and no. 3 now to complete my collection. I have a '28 Model AA truck which needs no. 1 and a '31 Model AA truck that needs no. 3.
Thanks, Fred
