Default 59a main cap studs or bolts question?

I have a 59A in the machine shop that has its main cap studs and nuts missing. I'm curious on your thoughts on using bolts instead of studs with nuts. Speedway sells ARP main cap bolts and washers for a reasonable price. Ford used bolts on the 8BA but im not sure if it would be safe to do the same on a 59A. Thoughts or experiance would be appreciated on this issue.

Replacing the studs with bolts is what I always do on the 59A engine's I build. On some highly modified flathead builds I will use ARP studs and their washers and nuts for the main bearing caps.

One thing to note - when you change the main cap hardware, make sure they check the main bores. Sometimes one has to align bore/hone the mains when the hardware has changed. If you have the original caps, the chances are you'll be okay - just make sure they check everything with the final hardware that you plan to use.

I typically use ARP main studs/washers/nuts (high performance builds) - as I like to torque on the fine threads (top of studs) and not on the coarse threads that are in the block.

Thank you for the replys. Would you happen to have the ARP numbers for the studs, washers and nuts that you used from ARP. Thank you.
