Re: Anybody restore a window regulator before?
I repaired a unit years ago. I welded in a section of carbon steel that I had created teeth on. It did not hold up, not being hard enough. For the damaged section use a high strength weld wire instead as Supereal suggested.

Re: Anybody restore a window regulator before?
Where can I get a replacement spring? Looking for the double helix spring used on some of the Ford regulators.

Re: Anybody restore a window regulator before?
Used the purple grease cleaner and steel wool to clean the parts. I'm going to spray paint non moving parts today with an auto primer, grease with white lithium and then reassemble today or tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

Re: Anybody restore a window regulator before?
So I applied a primer compatible with galvanized metal as I think it must have been. Greased it, reassembled and installed. However now the motor / motor area seems to make a high pitched squealing noise intermittently. Has anyone experienced this? Does it indicate bad motor shaft alignment with the regulator? Do these motors require periodic oiling?

Re: Anybody restore a window regulator before?
A word of caution when restoring regulators. Often the shaft that the handle goes onto is fitted with a diecast metal bushing, if you put them in strong caustic or acid, it eats away the diecast metal and when you pull them out the solution, you may lose the handle shaft. I found this out the hard way when I sent some in to be galvanised commercially. I got them back in like new condition, but could no longer use them, as the shaft piece had got lost in the tank and completely dissolved.

Are you driving the regulator with an electric motor?

Re: Anybody restore a window regulator before?
Hi,
You might have better luck in posting in the forum for your car, https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=5 or on the HAMB https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/ The other thing to check is if the motor is sealed and even if it is, you may be able to pull the bearings, clean and re-grease them. |

Re: Anybody restore a window regulator before?
I realized this is for early fords but the thread was the most relevant existing conversation. I may try that though, thanks.
