It was a Good idea to mount on the ground as this tank will really be heavy. Quickly Spray with a rust converter as soon as dry after pressure washing as it will flash rust quickly. Put the tank far from the house as wives can smell this process working although it does not smell bad to me till the enzymes are exhausted. Do not put any stippers or caustics in the mix as this slurry is actually alive.

The Model A gas tank is a real pain to remove for derusting. What do you all think of placing the molasses solution in the tank while the gas tank is still in the cowl?

Took the parts out and power washed them. The mix is 7 parts water to 1 part
molasses. I think it would work good on a gas tank as it will get in the inside of a door where you can not get with a sand blaster. And yes you have to hit the parts with a rust converter. I'am new at this so was not ready for the lite rust.
My friend hit his parts with a rust converter when he got home and said it cleaned up real good.

Lowell Fast after rereading yours I would NOT do it with out removing the tank. As you can not clean the top of the tank.

The upper inside of the tank IS one of the worse places for rust due to condensation. I was planning to fill the tank with the mix, all the way to the top to get the top surface wet. I should have mentioned this stuff does not remove paint and all grease should be removed befor submerging. After rinsing off, it will start to lightly rust right befor your eyes.

Rust converter? Is that the same thing as metal prep, like DuPont 5717S, or something else?

Any thing with Phos in the name, You might be better soaking in a warm caustic mix after ,its real hard to stop the molasses action ,
