Re: vinegar somor
After cleanup, I find a fine block crack behind the starter. I assume the vinegar opened an old crack. It doesn't appear to weap much. Should I use radiator stop leak? Baar's block leak bottle sez to disconnect the heater etc. Can I use radiator sto leak first app and see what happens. Or did the vinegar clean the crack enough for it to rust closed?

Tales from the dark side
Tales from the dark side , Did the vinegar thing at 5% for a week or about 800 miles of driving with my summer beater - 33 5w . Yeah a lot of ugly-smelly crap came out and after flushing and neutralizing with baking soda I now have leaks in 5 places on the motor . Both mounts,1 waterpump , the other waterpump to head gasket & last but not least one of the expansion plugs on the pan rail . The last is by far the most troubling as it is leaking outside AND INSIDE so it is letting a little water in the oil . This car had been sitting since the early 50's and was brought back to life last spring . I had the heads off and they are aluminum and they don't leak . It'll be some time B4 I do this to myself again . Car is parked till I can pull the pan and fix leaks . Kinda crappy to do something to help it and it takes it out of service . David J

MAN ! You'd kick if someone cut off your legs ! ... LOL That vinegar did not make your car leak. It just showed you were you had leaks, that were held together with rust, sand, grease or decades old stop-leak. Like jdl said, those leaks would have showed up, later, anyway. You can, probably, get back in service with some fresh stop-leak. MIKE |

I'm really sorry that you had to take your '33 off the road. I'm really happy that I did not p___ you off with my comments. But, you got to admit that vinegar works. It cleans out the crud. Even the crud that is making your block waterproof. I don't think that you are the first that this has happened to. My '35's radiator leaked after doing the vinegar thing. I put in some new stop-leak and it hasn't leaked since. Good luck, MIKE |
