What color is my coupe?
I need to replace the panel below the trunk lid but I can't seem to pin down what color is on the trunk and lower panel. It looks like it's been resprayed at some point. Any guesses on what combo my '30 Deluxe Coupe originally wore?

Re: What color is my coupe?
You don't need to know the color to replace that part. just take it off and down to the auto paint store and it can be determined and matched by computer.

Re: What color is my coupe?
It looks like you have a three color combo there. Model As were generally just a two color combination unless it was all one color. Chicle drab & copra drab were a normal combination but I'm not sure what all that is.

Re: What color is my coupe?
I know I can have the part color matched at any paint shop. I guess I was more curious as to what the stock combination would have been/is/should be. The trunk and surrounding area (that olive drab color) has been resprayed some years ago and is starting to check. The rest of the paint is original, far as I've been told, and I'd like to match the repainted parts to those. Without having a decent car to compare to in person, it's hard to guess what the color(s) are compared to stock Model As on the web.

Re: What color is my coupe?
The green combo could be Kewanee (olive) and Elkpoint (more blue) green. I think that was a factory scheme.

Re: What color is my coupe?
I'd say J Franklin has the overall color. Someone substituted a different color when they did a former repair. It looks like that rear body cross member has a bit of bend in it too. That would take some shrinking to pull that back straight again. Most of these old model As have had a few bumps & bruises over the last 90 years or so. The spare tire mount was a big target for rear end collision.

The light green looks like my "Dawn Gray" roadster.

Re: What color is my coupe?
Thanks guys! I appreciate the input.
No idea on the hood modification but the upper hinge on that side is completely gone. One of the quirks of owning a 90 year old car I figure. |

Re: What color is my coupe?
The old lacquer paints do some funny things as they age depending on the environment. Most don't last 90-years. It takes a lot of care, controlled temperature, and minimal exposure to sunlight to keep it looking good for that long.

Re: What color is my coupe?
Elk point and Kewanee Green with Apple green pinstripe with apple green wheels on de luxe models was used in both 1930 and 31 I don’t think you will find lacquer paint locally.

Re: What color is my coupe?
I believe that the color question has covered by one of the above respondents. I will add that when you get the replacement panel, you should verify that the of the panel and the reinforcing metal behind it have the proper curvature to match the rumble lid. The panel I received from one of the better known companies was arrow straight. I had to remove the reinforcement from the damaged panel and use it with the replacement.

Re: What color is my coupe?
That looks like a solid little Coupe, fun car!
I like those '35 Ford rims with the 600/16 radials. Nice paint job on them also maybe powder coated? I need to try those out on the '36 Ford someday. I bet they make the car handle and drive very well |

Color schemes are here: https://model-a-ford.org/resources/t...301931-closed/ and you can see them on Marco's roadster here: https://web.archive.org/web/20190211...orchange.shtml Colors may not show true due to differences in cameras and computers. That said, I'd guess your car is Kewanee and Elkpoint. It also kinda looks like what passed for Chicle and Copra in the 70s - 8os. But the correct shades of those are more brown than green. |

Re: What color is my coupe?
Thought I'd update my original post and found a couple unanswered questions.
First off, the tires are Coker Tire 6.00x16 and 7.00x16 Excelsior Stahl Sport Radials. Secondly, I finally got around to finishing the repair panel and got everything back together this last week. Had a local paint shop color match the existing paint on the damaged panels. With those two panels back on and in color, the weird gold decklid and quarter stripes really stood out, so I decided to wet sand them until I got to the original color underneath and then cut and buffed that paint. Wasn't looking for perfection, just wanted to get the right color combo back. After polishing the entire car, I think it's pretty obvious the car was originally Elkpoint and Kewanee Green. |
