390 Holley vacuum advance hose question

Where does the distributor vacuum advance hose attach on a Holley
390 carburetor? Engine is a 1953 V-8 Ford 239 cu. in, engine.

I ask this question as I am wondering how well a stock Load-o-Matic
distributor converted to dual points will work on this engine using a Holley 390.

The intake is an Offenhauser. Thank you.

There is no place on the carb that will give a proper signal for a Loadamatic distributor.

With any later carb you put on the engine it will have too much spark advance on light loads (steady speed cruising) and basicly no spark advance at all when at wide open throttle.
To work correctly with the Holley carb, you would have to change to an aftermarket or modified distributor with centrifugal advance. The Loadomatic has vacuum advance only.

19Fordy, according to CharlieNY you can run a Y Block, 1 inch bore, 94 type carb which improves performance with the Load o matic dizzy. I'm in the process now of ironong out minor tuning issues, but i can feel the difference. 239 c i, 30 over, Max 1 cam & Offy 400 heads.

I'm using the same carb/manifold combo on my '49 and had poor performance issues with the stock distributor. Was lucky enough to find a Mallory flat top at a reasonable price and it solved the problems.

I highly recommend that you get a reworked distributor from Bubba - CharlieNY mght make them as well. What you need is an aftermarket distributor with mechanical advance - some units may also have an additional vacuum advance that is designed to take the standard vacuum signal that comes out of the Holley 390.

While I like the looks and smaller size of the original Mallory flat-top distributors, they are getting harder to find -- many guys just use a modified SBC distributor . . . point and parts are cheap and they run great! Bubba can hook you up . . .

I have a couple sbc/8BA distributors on the shelf and a Mallory flat top dis-
tributor as well ready to go. The Mallory was a sbc unit I converted to 8BA..it also
has a mech tach drive.
