Default 37 ford stockcar The old number 2 finds a new home that brings us a 1940 ford pickup

Awhile back i ran a few posts on 37 fords that got some appreciation and some snarky responses.

On the one 37 ford, the old Number 2 stock car that ran a number of Delaware tracks in the 50s and was also used the movie White Lighting ended up finding a new home to a great guy in Riedsville North Carolina. Mike loves 37 fords and was the perfect person to take number 2 to its new home .

Besides 37 fords and 38 and 39 standards , 40 and 41 ford pickups we are very fond of.

Well Mike knew of a 40 pickup that had been in a family for many years that was going to become available.

This past weekend my wife and i packed up and headed south to the small town of Reidsville to bring the 40 pickup home.

The story is Mr Massey had owned the truck for a very long time , he aquired the truck in a horse trade , literally. Another local gentleman owned the pickup and Mr Massey had a dumptruck the man wanted so he traded the man the dumptruck for the 40 pickup a horse and alittle money.

At one point one of Mr Massey's sons was taking autobody in highschool and painted the truck baby blue, lowered the back by heating the spring and drove it for alittle while but found it was hard to pickup girls in old ford truck and it was parked. Lasted registered in 1972.

Mr Massey passed away about 10 yrs ago and the family decided to have a sale.
Thank you Mike for all the help in getting this truck to its next home.

Also, a big thank you to Tarheel Towing for helping us get the truck out of the barn and out to the main road to load on to the trailer.

The 40 had 4 flat tires and 1 locked brake drum.

The barn was about 3/4 of a mile off a country road that was a step grade down to a covered bridge then back up a step grade up to the barn.

Dig the 37, Love the pickup. My current project is a 41pu, so I'd be interested in any followups you may do showing progress.

Mart.

Looks like a nice straight old pickup. Looks like it was equipped with a Plymouth front bumper.

I was noticing that too; the ever popular, ribbed '49 Plymouth bumper. Same on the back?

Congrats!

No, there was not a plymouth rear bumper. The grill guard i don't know what it is but it did save the original unbroken diecast grill

Always warms my heart to see another early 40's Ford P-U being given TLC!

They were either a Ford dealer accessory or an aftermarket item. Had the
same one on my '36 coupe, and have seen several since then.

Huh... times change? Couldn't pick up girls in a 40 pickup then, if you're lucky you can pick up 7 girls in a '40 pickup today. If you're lucky. i know they fit.
