Default Control Rod Setup

Is there a section in Les Andrews Vol 1 that goes over the turning of the steering wheel housing tube to adjust the control rods...been looking for a hour with no luck. I was told to loosen the 3 bolts holding the tube and twist it until the arm in the distributor just hits the housing in the full retard position......not that i dont trust the member just want to read it for myself.

sounds logical
i know the 30 that i redone was that way when i started on it, the housing was turned to one side a bit but then again the advance arm was bent some also.

Correct as you state plus the flat boss area on the tube above the rods springs should be relatively level. The spark lever rod- to- distributor should also clear the engine block with out bends. There is a page in the Service Bulletins about the distributor body opening for the upper plate lever.

So that's the problem! Since replacing my steering gear box I couldn't figure out why the throttle lever and spark advance lever have a much shorter throw than they did before. At least now I know where to start.

Also note that the pile of aftermarket spark rods i had were all slightly different lengths which affects where the tube ends up. Yes the flat part should be relatively level.
