Default Oil dipstick fitting

I need to clean up the threads in the housing that the dipstick tube screws into. It feels like I can start a 1/4 x 18 npt but don't want to continue if I'm wrong.

Anyone know what the proper tap would be? TIA

I can check in the morning. I think it's 1/2-20 not tapered.

Don't use the NPT! It is straight thread.

Glad I learned my lesson some 60 years ago after nearly ruining an oil pan because I didn't know there were pan bolts that had to removed from above at the back. My Dad walked out and said "if it don't go - - stop. Find out why".

Thanks everyone. Fourdy

Little off the topic but my 35 pan has a broken dipstick houseing, the one with three rivets. I have a later one but it has a different rivet pattern and shape. What years are the same as 35?
I may have to put an add in the looking for parts section.
Thanks

Early or late oil pan?? The early has a large boss with long dip stick tube boss about 2 1/8" long like the 34, The later short boss has a much shorter boss for the dip stick tube 3/4" long.

It would seem mine is the later,I did not know there was a mid year change.
So what years after mid 35 will work? This gives me an idea what to ask for.
Thanks.
