adusting needle/ adj needle housing

for tillotson x carburetor
ques 1. prior to screwing in housing into lower carb body, do i need to retract needle all the way out in the housing? seems like if i don't, i will injure seat or needle tip
quest 2. if i retract needle all the way out, and i try to seat the needle after screwing housing in , will i be able to screw needle in without injuring seat or needle tip? will i be able to 'feel' when needle is seated?
ques 3. after i seat the needle, are there a certain number of turns out that should be made for initial setting like for example 1 1/2 turns out?
ques 4. snyder's and mac's have pictures of zenith, where can i find any pictures of a tillotson?

The vendors have a very good Tillotson repair and restoration manual. If you have the item and want to repair it, having the information is a plus. There are articles in the Restorer and Marc magazines.
The Tilly is kind of fragile so back the GAV out and when installing the housing screws don't use a lot of force in the screw driver. When installing the GAV needle, go slowly and you will feel it contact the seat, stop there when you just feel contact.

Some guys won't run anything but a Tilly. I know a guy who has five A's/five Tillotson's. They are a good carburetor.
