Default curious what you think

I've been thinking of using a 3 bolt to four bolt adapter to enable the use of a later model 2 barrel carb like a rochester 2CG on stock aluminum intake. Any one thoughts or recommendations.

You will have to match the intake ports to the base Venturi of the 2GC. Not a big deal, but necessary for optimal performance.

The intake manifold has two round holes matching the 97 carb, the available adapters all seem to be just oval without the center division. Do you suggest removing the area between the two holes in the manifold? The 2CG would up the cfm to about 350. Anyone with experience with adapters like these?

Nothing against the Rochester, but what about the new Edlebrock 94s? It should go with no mods.

NO, NO, do not do that, it would really hurt low speed drivability. Blend the two together, by modifying the intake manifold. Use the intake manifold from a mercury car. Cheep and is already a four bolt mount.

For testing purposes, I ran a 2GC Rochester - that I had built from a bunch of pieces - on a stock (other than dual exhaust) 59ab engine in my '46 Tudor. I used a cast aluminum 3-bolt-to-4-bolt adapter such as you describe. The engine ran like a scalded ape. Very noticeable improvement over the stock 94.

As a permanent installation, I converted a Mercury intake and blended the ports as suggested by Russ/40. I'm well satisfied with the results.

I also converted to a Mercury manifold with a 2GC. Runs good in the driveway waiting for tags to gitur on the road. Zeke

I didn't like the Speedway adapter because of the open plenum it creates. I got this kind instead, but want to add an aluminum plate under it to taper gracefully into the manifold (which I will somewhat open up). It does require drilling and tapping a hole pretty accurately on the top of the manifold, not a huge thing. It costs $55, which I think is excessive, but what can you do?

I have two cars running with 4 bolt aluminum manifolds and Rochester 2g carbs. I found both to run a bit stronger than 94's. I got my manifolds from Bill Boomer in Canada. They polish up nice.
