The 31 Model A Town Sedan and the 19 Model T with a Mifflinburg body
Both belonged to my dad and I drove them to High School in the early 60's. The A to school when my 41 Ford opera coupe was broken (often) and the T to football games with the cheerleaders. Last edited by nhusa; 06-23-2014 at 04:41 PM. |

Deb took the picture in october on the Day that I tought our 10 year old grand daughter how to drive the model A. My good friend Mitch thought that the pic would be a good choice and showed me how to post an avatar pic. Thanks again Mitch.

Because it's a lot prettier than I am! When the '29 is done this summer, it'll be the '29. Doing the bed now. Worst part of the entire project. Man I'm getting tired of body work. Give me a wrench any day. When I'm done, I never want to see another piece of sand paper as long as I live.

I had just located the correct radiator shell and Canadian 1930 Emblem for my Phaeton, leaned it up against a wall and took the photo, the rest is history. Just a fluke, I doubt that I could recreate the photo if I had to, I like it.

Re: Explain why you chose your avatar ......
I use it in every forum just because it is easy. I started using it years ago in a forum where there was a lot of discussion of wanting pictures of the members. Driving a convertible in the mountains with my wife by my side is a great activity so I used a picture she took of me during a club mountain drive.

Our 1930 coupe (since February 1977); my wife Jean (since February 1965) and me at Napa County July 4th parade a couple of years ago. Avatar pretty much says it all. (February is a good month.)

28-29 woodies are among my favorite Model As. Mine is one of the first 5 prototypes built 12/10/28 with original wood and no finger joints. Perhaps the only one restored to show quality.

Proud enough to have a son interested in Model A's. The other members hated it when he was a judge because he was so tough.

Re: Explain why you chose your avatar ......
it looks similar to my first A car, ( my first was actually an AA), a 29 coupe that was even more rough than the sedan in the avatar. It had been converted to a plumbers truck, with a box in place of the trunk lid, and pipe racks screwed to the pass side fenders. The visor was missing. There was about 5 square inches of paint left on the entire body. It had new tires and battery and ran quiet and cool, but had some electrical problems.... Cost me 125 bucks in 1972. I spent a lot of time under the hood like these guys until I got it running very well and drove it as my only car until 1980.

Re: Explain why you chose your avatar ......
I am lucky to be the head wrench on these cars. from the left, my 28' Special coupe, my fathers 30' Pick-up and then his 29' Tudor. We are almost ready to add the fourth to the herd, my 31' short wheel base AA stake bed on duals. Then we'll have one from each year. Guess I'll up-date the avatar then. Its been fun, its been frustrating, and its a great excuse to hang in the shop and share a beer or two with my Dad.

Re: Explain why you chose your avatar ......
My 3 cars, 1930 rpu I had since 1985 finally finished it last June, 1937 4 door humpback my father started to restore and wasn't able to finish so I finished it without him knowing and surprised him with it about 4 years ago ( worth all the effort and time to see his face when he first saw it) and the 1930 coupe (I know it is a hot rod) bought the cut up body in 1973 me and my dad built it, sold it in 1988 and was able to buy it back in 2012, nothing like getting the first car you and your dad built together back, that is why I used that picture

No good stories like zzlegend!!!
Mine was simply the first time I drove a Model A, and if you look real close my son is sitting next to me. He was 6 at the time. Figured I would retake this picture each year and watch him grow up. Hopefully in 10 years we will swap positions and he will be taking me for a ride! |

I have always loved the U.S.A. colors furiously flapping in the wind as I run down the road. Model A's go too fast and the flags get shredded, but the Model T just pokes along and all is well.

Mine reflects my attitude to life. Life is too short to take all things too seriously. Enjoy your family, your hobby and your possessions. Today is the first day of the rest of your life, make the most of it. Smile and stay happy.

Re: Explain why you chose your avatar ......
I wanted either a Model T or Model A since I was about 9 years old. When I finally was able to get one (40 years later), I decided the Model A was the one to get because it was more practical to drive. I know (now) the wheels are not Model A, and few other things are not either, but I am not a strict purist. Cars are meant to be driven and I drive mine. The avatar is my pride and joy.
