53 Ranchwagon self adjuster brake parts
I need the cable, guide and adjuster plate for my Ranchwagon. Not been able to locate the parts I need, but they are available for 11" truck brakes. Does anyone know if these parts would possibly fit my Ranchwagon? I have been able to locate all the other brake parts, but not this one.

Especially the cable. Do a search for a later model Ford passenger car with 10" Bendix brakes. The last time I needed them for my 11" Mercury brakes NAPA had the kits. Stands to reason that they would have the kits fo the 10" brakes. This is an example of what's available on EBAY--- https://www.ebay.com/itm/Bendix-H260...pzvOO3GGXxJbyg

Re: 53 Ranchwagon self adjuster brake parts
I looked in a NAPA brake catalog and they don't show any Ford self adjustment
kits until 1961. Was this a later add on? Bob |

Re: 53 Ranchwagon self adjuster brake parts
The late stuff should fit. Go to a Napa store and ask to look at one of their brake hardware kits. Look at a kit for '61 or later and Ill bet it will fit your application. The V-8 Club's 52-53 Ford book does show the brakes for those years, but they are not shown as being self adjust type brakes. I suspect yours may have been converted which is easy to do on those brakes.

The F1 48-52 & F100 53-67 all use the H7144 Spring and Hardware Kit. The Adjuster kits (RH2540 & LH2541) are only listed for F100 64-76, but that is because that is when they were introduced on the new vehicles. They will fit the F1 and F100 backing plates. I would guess the same type of thing was going on in the car lines. Last edited by JSeery; 05-13-2019 at 03:34 PM. |

You have to specify (left or right, front or rear) This is a NAPA kit-- https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/UBP80664 The kit as installed on '51 Mercury 11" brakes.

Re: 53 Ranchwagon self adjuster brake parts
For some reason I was thinking the self adjusting mechanism operated off the emergency brake operation, and the front brakes would only have the star adjuster..no cable. After reading the responses I gather that the front brakes would have had the same set up. My front brakes only have the star adjuster, no cables, and they are all in tact. So, maybe mine didn't come with the automatic self adjusters after all.

Parts introduced later in time will work on earlier vehicles.
