other than ford green
this low cost green enamel i plan to paint my motor is a baked on enamel once the motor gets hot enough, right?
now if i have anything i choose not to paint ford green and wish to antique, say using a blackening system (phosphoric based) what would be recommended for clear as a protection for that finish, is a clear enamel what i should look for ? |

Re: other than ford green
use engine paint it is designed for high temps. You can get a "cast" color. I wouldn't clear coat the finish as it would probably peel and yellow over time.

Re: other than ford green
Why go to all the extra trouble and expense when the proper paint is readily available?

I've also been told that multiple coats, even of the correct paint, let alone a clear coat or primer, can inhibit engine cooling, a situation we sure don't need to encourage on a Model A.

Re: other than ford green
I would buy only a quality paint designed for engines. Your reference to "low cost green enamel" scares me. If I wanted orange, I would buy a paint for a Chevrolet and so on for other colors. Note that the surface of the block is such that brush on paints work very well.
