Default Paint color for 1940 std faceplate instrument panel

What color and method are you using to repaint the 1940 std faceplate in the instrument cluster. ( tan/ beige).
Also the brown stripes.
What is the brightest 6 volt bulbs have you found for instrument cluster?
Thanks Tom.

This shows that C&G Ford Parts has replacement 1940 gauge faces. Might be easier than painting them.

DRAKE has the gauges faces for the DeLuxe. Call and see if he has them for the Standard also.

My original 46k mile instrument cluster has a cream color with a slight yellow tinge. In my album that is my 40 V8 (std) coupe there is a picture of it. All I did was clean the glass on this cluster.
Additional info: I posted in my MISC album a good picture that shows the color well.
I think the stripes are Briarwood brown like the dash.

std40: A few thoughts.

Here's a must read thread.
https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...3325&showall=1

Here's a formula for Briarwood Brown that looks darn close to a match.
http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcod...arwood&rows=50

On my DeLuxe plate I used rubbing compound and polishing compound for plastic
and hand rubbed the original tan plastic. Then applied car wax. The OEM plate is cellulose plastic and would look "unoriginal" if painted. For the Brown Stripes I taped off the plastic using thin line pin striping tape. "Remove the tape while paint is still sticky so that it won't leave a sharp edge or peel off with your tape. Do a test spot on the back of the plate first so as not to damage the plastic.

Also. the glass plate for the cluster is very thin and fragile so be careful removing and installing.

Take the panel to a local hobby store and see if you can find a small spray can that is close or the same as the tan/yellow color. Then look for some brown striping tape for the stripes. You might call Classic Instruments who make a gauge panel for 40's. Their background color is very close to the stock '40 and they may be able to give you the color name of what they use.

Got them from Amazon.Just type in 6 volt LED bulbs , it’ll bring up several but you’ll need to scroll through to find them. Here’s the ones I bought.

I would suggest buying exactly what Ken shows, not one of the others you may find available. I tried a couple different 6 volt LEDs listed for instrument panels. Both were a little too long for my ‘40 standard. They hit something inside the panel before they could be fully inserted. Ken’s picture seems to show a snub-nosed, short “bulb” LED. I think I will try to get that one.
