Default 1933-34 locking spare tire hupcap

Does anyone know how to remove the spring mounted key cover,thats located over the lock cylinder that says Ford?The front looks like a rivet,but the back may be press on,has anyone had any luck taking these apart? Please pm me or email [email protected] Thanks E.P.W.

Ed, I got the brass retainer off of the rivet type head spring pin, which appears to be pressed on......unfortunately, such a great amount of force was needed to remove it, it flew someplace in my basement.......which I haven't found yet....

The retainer is crimped on and can be removed with some force. At one time Bob Drake sold a "kit" to replace the retainers on trunk handles, if it is still available it may work on a cap lid. I take them apart in a large clear plastic bag. When stuff flies apart it gets captured by the bag.

Plastic bag is a neat idea when disassembling something with small parts.

You can also put a piece of tape over it. Keeps it from going flying and you can punch through it
