Taking apart an F-1 bed
The bed on my '42 is pretty beat up, but I have some better bedsides for it...but I also have a '48 F1 bed in pretty decent shape...I'd like to put my decent bed sides on the F-1 bed.
Looking at the F-1 bed, I can't detect any spot welds/etc along the sides where the floor is next to the bedsides...and I just not looking well enough? Or is the only thing holding the floor down the screws that go into the wood? Thanks |

Re: Taking apart an F-1 bed
On my 45 bed, or what was left of it, the tin covering the wood was spot welded and riveted along the sides and front. As I recall there were only four rivets, two on each side.

Thanks D...I didn't detect spot weld, but will look closer for rivets.

Re: Taking apart an F-1 bed
Here is some pics of a upside down F series box.
Only thing holding in the floor is the framework. Hope this helps. |

Re: Taking apart an F-1 bed
Thanks Torchie...did you remove the metal on top of the wood? If so, was it welded in or rivited in as well?
Thanks |

The metal floor in the 48-50 is spot welded to the sides and head panel as D Jones described. I think 42 - 50 is the same box, just different fenders. Your fender bolts will be a mis-match. |
