brakes on 36
After some brake work, when I fi rst apply the brakes the emergency brake lever moves rearward and catches on the first notch. In other words, the emergency brake comes on automaticly. Help.

Re: brakes on 36
There is a procedure to set up mechanical brakes. Basically you take the clevis pins out on the wheel ends of all brake rods. The cross rod where all of the brake rods connect must have the connection arms at the top. If I recall you adjust the emergency brake first. Then you pull the arms from the brakes tight by hand and adjust the rods so they just allow the clevis pins to enter. Look the procedure up in the Ford service manual and follow the instructions. With good linings all 4 wheels will lock and slide the wheels. G.M.

If you can crawl under the car and reach up and put a dab of light grease on the slotted rod end and clevis that attaches the emergency handle rod to the brake cross shaft. That will usually do it.
