Vacuum Line routing - '31 Roadster
Specifically - the rubber vacuum hose that comes off the lower end of the chrome windshield line - that goes into the car.
There is one hole directly below the stanchion and another hole just to the right... pics attached (not very good quality...). I cannot easily determine if the hole below the stanchion is accessible from the inside of the car - the other I know is... Follow up question - what is the other hole, that is not used for the vacuum line, designed for? Thanks in advance...

Bogie,
The hole in your lower stanchion should be accessible from the inside. I've never seen a hole in the belt rail before. Something for an aftermarket item?

Re: Vacuum Line routing - '31 Roadster
I acquired the car in pieces - so I don't know if there was anything in that inside hole - anyone have any ideas?
As far as the vacuum line - do you think it would be possible to fish the hose thru, or would removal of the inside cowl panel be necessary? Thanks!

Marco has a couple of areas dedicated to his DeLuxe Roadster that would likely help you by studying his pictures. Go to his www.abarnyard.com website and look around.

Re: Vacuum Line routing - '31 Roadster
Did that - this was the only photo of the vacuum line I could find, and it was straight from the side... (ignore the red arrow - was in there for a different purpose).
But, I could have missed one - there were lots of pictures to look thru... Maybe he'll see this and lend his expert help... The extra hole has me very curious... Thanks.

Hoping for a quick response...
Don't have it in front of me... what is the ID of the rubber hose for use with the vacuum lines? Thanks.

Re: Vacuum Line routing - '31 Roadster
The vacuum hose I purchased from a vendor appears to have a 1/8" (.125") ID.

Re: Vacuum Line routing - '31 Roadster
Thanks!
That's what I thought from eyeballing it last night - but with old eyes and oldtimer's memory - I wanted to verify... Still no one with a thought on the purpose of the extra hole...??

Re: Vacuum Line routing - '31 Roadster
I think the extra hole just got drilled in there at some time, by someone. I have seen reproduction lower stantions that did not have the hole drilled in them. Somone may have had those, and found it easier to just drill the belt molding.

Re: Vacuum Line routing - '31 Roadster
Modelakid31:
Thanks - I think... Have to admit it confuses me a bit more... - no clips along the top of the windshield frame holding the rubber line. I thought that was 'normal', yet my windshield frame did NOT have holes for the clip screws. But, then again, my windshield frame has holes thru it for mounting the wiper motor; yours is mounted like Marco's, above the frame with clamps. - the stanchion vacuum line on yours is inboard of the windwing hardware, Marco's is outboard in the picture I included above. - the rubber hose in your picture appears to connect to a metal line right at the hole in the lower stanchion - I was under the impression the rubber hose goes into the hole, is routed behind the cowl panel and then is connected to the metal line under the dash, along the firewall. So many variations... so few $$$ More food for thought... (my head hurts)
