Default Auto transmission

Would the auto trans from a '65 Ford sedan be ok for a '65 Mustang? It is free to a friend, but I don't want to give him a boat anchor. Thanks guys

Check the bolt pattern at the back of the engine and front of the transmission. They changed about that time.

The early blocks had 5 bolts (bell to block), the later (65 or so) had six bolts.

Probably not, assuming the sedan is a V8. If the sedan is a big block, the trans is a cast iron cruiso and it won't fit. If it's a small block engine it could be a C-4, but the bellhousing will be for a 164 tooth flywheel and a small block Mustang used a 157 tooth flywheel and a smaller bellhousing

There is also a difference in the shift lever between column shift and floor shift.
Its the lever on the side of the transmission. You might just have to flip it upside down or take the one out of the car the trans is going in if its an automatic also.
