Default 32 grill shell welting

The 32 grill shell I bought didn't come with any welting. I purchased some from Mac's but am unsure how to mount. I did a search and found out how to mount the upper and lower clips but after I get it on do I use the bolts that hold the shell to the radiator to also hold it against the shell? Seems if you don't its not very secure. Thanks Ken

If you put the hooks on so the lacing is real tight you will have no problems. The hood will hold it in against the shell. If you are concerned you could use some black 3M weather strip adhesive but it is not necessary. I am only running hood tops and the hooks hold the lacing just fine.

The procedure is to first size the cowl or grille lace before installing it. The lace is to have tension on it so that it is tight to the shell. That means that it is cut just a touch short and then stretched to engage the clips. The grille shell is first attached to the radiator via the 4 flat head machine screws then the grille lace is installed top clip first with a slight closed bend and stretched to clip in the corresponding slot in the lower portion of the grille shell. At that time the clip is then closed slightly to remain in place.

I am looking at the lacing in the C&G and Drake catalogs, there is a big price difference between the two. Anyone know if it is the same brand?

Another tip is I leave a little extra past the end of the hooks. When I get the hooks riveted I cut off the extra length with a sharp razor blade and put a dab of Elmer's glue on the freshly cut end. Stops it from fuzzing out and when it drys it disappears.

If you are not going to put your car thru fine point judging you can do what I did. I put a small piece of shrink tubing on the ends to keep them neat.

I used black cloth electrical tape, wrap once or twice on ends, put seam on back so you dont see it . Mine faded brown you hardly notice it.

I've found that were is two types of lacing out there. The Vintque stuff is circular and then there is the "more correct" type is flatter and sits on the shell a little nicer.

I'll try to dig up where I got the "more correct" stuff from.
