Water for cooling
If water is better, would it be better yet with a rust inhibitor added?

Re: Water for cooling
Yes to rust inhibitor. I am not sure why you feel water is better, but a rust inhibitor always makes sense.

Re: Water for cooling
If your cooling system and engine are in decent shape and set up properly/clean you don't have to jump through all the hoops and crackpot ideas out there. 50/50 mix is just fine. Fix what wrong and an A will cool just fine. Straight water is trouble... rust inhibitor may help but still trouble if it ever gets below freezing.

Re: Water for cooling
If you read the side/specifications of "coolant/antifreeze" a 50/50 does not only help the mixture from freezing but helps from boil over, I.e. higher boiling point... I think this is well known for decades...

Re: Water for cooling
50 / 50 is an ideal mixture and it contains a water pump lubricant and a rust inhibitor. For the convenience I buy the premixed. I know it is more expensive but it is worth the extra cost for the convenience. When I travel I Carry a 50 / 50 with me. Wayne

Re: Water for cooling
Does anyone know about using water with water soluble oil? A lot of Model A guys used to use it. It's the same water soluble oil that is used in a metal lathe that lubricates and cools the work. Anyone know the ratio of mixing the stuff?

Water pump lubricant and rust protection.

50/50 mix antifreeze under a 15 psi cap----265*F No answer for non pressurized cooling system----so maybe 220*F boiling point for 50/50 anti freeze? Not much help for the boiling point in our A's |

Re: Water for cooling
I live in south Florida. High temps seem to be the norm here lately. I only run water and Redline water wetter. A good product that does lower the temps on the water, and has a lubricant and rust inhibitor. As we all know antifreeze/coolant doesn't cool anything, but just raises the boiling point of the water. In short, it gets just as hot if not hotter. If I still lived in Virginia, I would use water and water wetter during the summer months, and switch over to 50/50 during the cooler months.
