Default Packing insert bearings

A few weeks ago, I was in touch by PM with a member of this forum about how we might be able to avoid grinding 0.010" off our crankshafts to go to the next undersized insert. I had a clean out of PMs and inadvertently lost his contact and I can't remember who it was other than he has a workshop and was going to do some research on one of my suggestions.
The person concerned will know who I mean. Please contact me again. Thank you.

All you have to do is babbitt the inserts---then you can bore them any size you want

There used to be "semi finished" inserts made for some applications, they were bored to size in a fixture

Depending on the construction of the insert in question it masy be possible to make a .010 insert into say .005 --if the steel backing is all the same thickness and the undersize is made with bearing material

I think that would be me. I was going to talk to my supplier about the possibility of manufacturing sizes between his present offerings. I placed an order this past Monday and unfortunately, found him absent. I will still have this conversation with him and post the results.
Good Day!

Thanks Dave. Like I said, I inadvertently deleted our earlier conversations. I, and I'm sure everyone else would like to see the results of your conversation with your supplier.
Some other worthwhile info has been offered in this thread. Thank you Mike.
