Bubbles in the fuel bowl ??
Here is an issue I am having..when the engine is running in the 36 the fuel pump glass bowl will have an off & on surge of large air bubbles.
I suspect that the fuel pump is sucking air into the system, the pump is a new repro from a Ford vendor.... I have double tightened all fittings including the screws on the top fuel pump cover. Nothing is leaking and the car seems to be running well...I have never run across an issue like this. Anyone ever have this type of situation ?? Could it be something internally in the fuel pump ??? |

Re: Bubbles in the fuel bowl ??
I have had problems where the sediment bowl leaked a little air around the top of the glass bowl. It was very slight, but reared it's ugly head on hot days. I ended up replacing the gasket for the sediment bowl. At the same time, I sanded the top of the bowl's rim on my surface plate to make sure it was dead flat with no imperfections. Curiously, I also found during this exercise that cork bowl gaskets seal better than the neoprene ones. I would have expected to would have been the other way around.

I'm a cork fan. Usually bubbles are on startup. Air leak.
If it's running well, then don't fix it. |

Re: Bubbles in the fuel bowl ??
Temps in the triple digits & this piss poor liquid they call gas is raising hell with my carb & fuel pumps. Everything from bubbles to leaking & I do mean leaking. The fuel is running down from the carb base in rivulets. Today I have 3 fans on the car & so far nothing leaking. Brand new rebuild & I need to torque the head bolts for the third & last (I hope) time. Runs good as long as I get fuel. There oughta to be a law against selling this crap.

Fuel filter hoses come with chintzy spring clips which are guaranteed to leak air. Replace them with worm style hose clamps, and as above, retighten them when the hoses warm up some.

Re: Bubbles in the fuel bowl ??
Tinker yes I am sure. pumping bubbles & no atomizing when I look in the carb. The fuel tank being where it is ,the sun hits it pretty good in the pm. With temps in the triple digits it gets mighty warm back there. Yesterday with the 3 fans on it I had no problem. I have no idea when I take it out of the garage what is going to happen ,but I have stuck another optima battery in with the other & if I run out of power I have a reserve. Of course pumping bubbles isn't going to help.

Re: Bubbles in the fuel bowl ??
I think this reminder needs to be stated here. In hot conditions the engine runs for a few minutes and stops, then if left to cool a few minutes starts up agin. This happens many times with an old coil that needs to be rewound, it happened to me even tho I had all the classic symptoms of vapor lock.... Skip Haney cured it.

Re: Bubbles in the fuel bowl ??
You will see bubbles in a hot pump as vapor lock starts. G.M.

Re: Bubbles in the fuel bowl ??
There is a test you can do with a vacuum gage were you can test for Air leaks ,the glass boll seal can warp at the pot metal, you can glue the cork in with silicone and lightly tighten the bowl in then the next day tighten it fully ,Ted

Re: Bubbles in the fuel bowl ??
Today I took the 34 out to get some miles on the new engine. Temp was 104 & i found a hill that was steep on one side & long on the other side so I would run up one side then go up the other side just to get some load on the engine. Before I left home I added about a pint of MMO to the fuel that already had some in it & stopped to get 3 more gals of 90 octane. The engine temp never got over 180 & the car. preformed super. I am one happy camper today. Stopped & started the engine several times also. I use an optima 6 Volt battery & it had a bit of a struggle with the compression, heads milled.016 as is the block. It still started on the first or second rev. Thanks to Skip & unkl Max.

Re: Bubbles in the fuel bowl ??
Sweet car...
Someone once said, "If I'd known I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself." My old gaskets leak and my fittings drip, and then there are those ever present bubbles in my gas, but the good news is most of the time I am totally unaware of it." Chap |

Re: Bubbles in the fuel bowl ??
I had bubbles in the bowl of the pump on the 33 way back, and it would miss and play up on hills, turned out to be a cracked fuel line where it came out of the sender on the tank.
