I got my bolts out with a socket that has steel pins inside if it, it fits around what is left of the bolt head and bites in as you twist the socket wrench. Got it at Ace hardware.

YAHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

A huge thanks all.

I had given up after no success. I had Kroil on the area and WD40. I tried every socket I had. The radiator input is in the way for a BFH applier. I did find a deep 14mm six sided and got it to hang upon one point. 3/8's drive as racket and a left handed pull. Before I started the pull with my bad left rotator, I tole the bolt/socket "either you comes out or I puts a chebby in yer place." The socket stayed on an angle and slipped all the way over the bolt's head. The thread was soaked in oily goo. The new pump does not had an oiler hole. I have a photo.

Thanks again fellow clubbers. Next is to replace to pump and reassemble, after a slow down

Others may have different views but I always use a stainless bole with anti seize for the bolt in the water passage.

On my 36 you cannot use anything other than an open end wrench to remove the 3ea 9/6" bolts, clearance is too tight and yes, mine were well used and heads were rounded too, might replace old bolts, IMHO, YMMV.

Shouldn'n need prying, Clem, you got all 4 bolts out? Is the engine mount undone? Have you supported the weight of the engine?

A knock with a soft faced mallet should knock 'er loose. No heavy blows, just a bit of tappity tap.

Inside water bolts might need to be drilled if they are rounded.

Thanks all. Pump is off and quite rusty. Wet bolt replaced with a stainless one. Pump back on after a fight about order of starting bolts. Seem start with the wet one and then the others. Fought the fact that the lock washer does not pass the socket opening. shallow socket works fine.

Took Sunday off to compete in the Fairfax, VA huge car show. Brought my 40 Merc convertible sedan to win in the top 20 of 300 vehicles
