Default How do you tell what year your engine is

I just don't know what year the engine in my 56 is. It has a 57 Dist and intake manifold. The heads are ECZG and the intake manifold is ECZ-9425-B That all I can tell.I did put a 6 blade fan on the car. I want to install Air Cond. in the car. I ordered the Air from TEE-Bird. How do I tell what year the block is???

There should be a casting # just above the oil filter letters-6015-letter. Numbers and letters below them are the date codes. Heads should be similar in coding style.

Ir really does not matter what year the block is if the only thing you are doing is installing air. All the blocks are the same from 55 to 62 outside wise. The TBird engines (the ones actually installed in TBirds) have a different water pump installation and different road draft tubes, but the basic block is the same. The different water pump configuration most likely will not fit a sedan as the difference is a one inch spacer between the block and the pump.

The heads and intake are 57

I know of actual no 56 that came with 57 carb and manifold and dist. A lot where changed over later. Back in the 60's I had a 56 TB, that I changed over to 57 manifold and dist. But none of the 56's came that way., Bill

I know the intake and dist are 57 and the rearend is also. I wonder if the engine is 57 also. but don't know how to tell. The heads are 57 also.No big deal. It does have tranny oil lines going to the radiator which was later right??The car is just a driver so it doesn't make anu difference. I want to drive the RTE 66 next year all the way to Calif. and back. I ordered a air cond to install when its comes.

The 292 blocks will all be the same except the numbers . In 1956 the 272 was dropped and all the rest were 292 or 312 . The ID block numbers is the only way of telling what year block you have or you could have a different year block due to warranty repairs also . You could also have someones efforts to get a faster running car too . In 1957 they had the better heads , intake ,carb , distributor and rears , so some kid might have gotten all the parts to " Hop up " their car . Anyway you look at it , you have a good engine set up !

The fellow that had the car before me was killed in a accident falling through a high roof.I got the car from his sons and they did not know much.I have done a lot of work since I got the car. It had sat for a long time. The Dist was shot but a 57 and intake was 57 also. It does have a later carb and I don't know what year because the tag is missing. The pinon seal was leaking and a axle seal also which I replace and it is a 57 rear end. The inter tir rod is wore out.The windows are frosted some so I got new glass. The paint is very good and the interior is decent and will do for now. It had the wrong shocks and the rear springs were weak which I replace springs and shocks.Radio doesn't work and the heater motor was in the trunk and shot also.I had the radiator rodded out and a 6 blade fan installed. Vacumm wipers are no good so I got electric wipersThe chrome and stainless is very good.I guess I got a pig in a poke but I will make a nice car out of it. The motor is very strong and the tranny is ok does leak a bit which in the fucture I will correct. The power steering I got a seal kit for it. Wife wants me to raise the seat a bit and make it move a bit closer so she can drive it which I will. This dam Ford is not going to get the best of me. So help me lets see what the car will be in a year or so. That about it for this junker I guess.

Diamonds don't come out of the ground polished, eh? It's a real gem you got there. I wish I'd taken pics of mine when I got it. OMG. But all I've put into it was worth it.

I've not done business but have heard mixed reviews. There was quite a discussion about them over on the HAMB, maybe a year or so ago. Here's the link if you want to read:

They were at the Midland MI swap meet in June and seemed to be doing a lot of business. Guess as always it's a case of 'buyer, be aware'

Redneck, the casting number should be on the block where the Dizzy goes in if it's an earlier block.. If it's a later block the numbers will be above the oil filter on the side of the block.. Those are only gonna give you ball-park figures though.. Let us know the casting numbers and I'm sure we can help more..

Reminds me of seeing pictures of my Grandma trying to look over the sterring wheel of their 59 Caddy.. Of course GranDa was only 5'6" so he was struggling to drive the big pink Caddy around too he always preferred his farm truck, the 1.5 ton, bright orange 36 Ford named "Herkemer." good times..........

Sometime in Sept.I think. I will check. They got High Street all tore up now. They are repairing the sidewalks.I am going on the Glidden Tour in Seept. I don't care much for car shows anymore.Pay 10 bucks to sit in the sun all afternoon is not much fun.

Redneck from Waynesburg PA, are you still out there? Do you still have the 1935 Ford pickup? I saw a photo of it on this forum a few months ago and thought "Wow!" I'm a big fan of 1935 Ford pickups but have never seen one in person here in Western PA. Do you attend any of the local car shows with the truck?

Just have her throw a thick yellow pages phone book on the seat and sit on it. Then move the seat up all the way forward.
